2006 Season Update and results so far 29/7/06
The 2006 season got of to a mixed start with Chris breaking his foot a Dome Hill on May 1st when spectators pushed the cap stone from a dry stone wall into the track. This meant he was unable to race again untill the Chester clubs meeting at Rhos Y Madog near Wrexham on the 9th July. However, the rest of the team consisting John Price and Ian Evans continued to do well. John won his class at the Acorns meeting on the 14th May with Ian taking 2nd, where despite having no 4th gear he was lapping as qickly as the expert 125 class with their modern bikes. At the next meeting at Pant Y Dwr in Mid-Wales Ian reversed the results by taking his class 1st leaving John, who was struggling with machine problems, to take 2nd place. The team took a short break then missing the Teifiside meeting, but were back with a vengance on the 4th of June meeting at Kendal in the Lake District, where Ian again took a class first with John finishing 2nd again struggling to get his machine set up.
|
The next meeting on the 11th June at Bath finished in the same way with Ian first and John 2nd. Chirs returned to racing on the July 9th meeting of the ChesterClub at Rhos Y Modog near Wrexham following his early season foot injury. The ASR team enjoyed considerable success here with Ian placing 1st, John taking 2nd and despite not being fully race fit Chris finished a creditable 4th place overall in the class. The next meeting was the teams favourite meet at Hawkstone Park where Chris continued his return to form with a 3rd to Ians class win. So at the end of the day they shared the podium. The 23rd July Acorns meeting was cancelled so the next meeting was back down to Mid-Wales for the 6th of Augustthis time at Cymytig Hill where the ASR team scored the best results of the season with a stunning 123 (Ian, Chris and John). Well that is the season so far watch these pages for more results as they happen. |

20th August Kendal
At next race meeting at Kendal in the Lake District the ASR team continued its winning streak. Chris won the first race from Ian, who was severely handicaped by a massive hangover from the night before.

In the second race Chris got off to a storming start and lead for five laps until with the checkered flag nearly within his grasp, he managed to miss three gears and let Ian sneak through for a win. |

Chris had obviously damaged the gearbox as he continued with his gearbox lottery in the final race of the day (every time he changed he was never sure what gear he was going to get) despite this handicap he managed to finish 2nd to Ian. So Ian took the class win again, increasing his overall lead in the Championship and once again showing just how good these old Honda's can be. |
So after a hotly contested year, the stage was set for a tough final battle for the title, in the final round of the 2006 Classic Championship at Llantony, near Abergavenny. With only eight points separating John and Ian. But the drama didn't end there, during the final check over Ian discovered a broken bolt on his 33 year old Honda, but decided to race anyway. He manage to coax it home to a creditable 2nd place, behind John, to take the Championship by just five points. In a season where the ASR bikes completely dominated the Championship, Ian took nine wins (231 points) to John's eight (226 points) leaving the third place rider with only 90 points. All in all a great result for the ASR team in 2006. |
